Bday party!

So my youngest, K, will be tunring 2 in a week! We had his party this past weekend, originally in hopes that some out of town friends would be able to come in due to the holiday (they didn't). I don't know how you feel about kid birthday parties....but we dont' go "all out " in the way thats so popular today. I feel if the party costs more than the birth its way too much! We are simple with our bday partys. I made cupcakes this year, usually we do a store bought cake but I figured even I could make monster cupcakes! If they looked bad it was b/c they were monsters... right? We set up the kiddie pool in the backyard, filled the sandbox with ant free sand. And threw some toys around the yard after tying up our horse-sized dog! Result? Will kids like an "old-school" style bday party?? Will there be complaints of where's the moonwalk? NO!! They loved it! NO one complained!! They fussed when it was time to come in and blow out candles but stopped when they realized this meant they got cake! I don't imagine I will ever be one of those parents that spends way too much on a birthday party and I really dont understant why people do it? But I'm hereby giving everyone permission to no join in the who can spend more on a party competition! Am I saying we will never have a party at Chuck E Cheese? Well while I really really hope the answer is no we wont I'm smart enough to know that we might. When the boys are old enough to ask for it and have a list of kids they want to invite we will talk about it. But I'm seeing a few more yrs of backyard parties in our future! And ya know what? They loved it the free time to run around get wet, and sandy!! Eat cake outside with their fingers! They think we rock!!!

embarking on a new project!

I'm going to attempt to make a little sundress (or something similar) out of some really pretty fabric I got the other day in the remnant bin! My fav place to shop! I have never done any sewing this ambitious before so I will probably attempt it while my MIL is here! So if anyone has any links to a totally awesome tutorial please send them my way!

to share or not to share?

My boys are crazy! My oldest C has some bubble issues....meaning he doesnt want his little brother in his bubble! So they are "taking turns" (I use this term very loosely) climbing onto a cube-shaped foot stool that we have to turn a lightswitch on and off. C will stay up there until K gets within about 6 inches of the foot stool then he hops down whining....in a MOM HE WONT LET ME .....(fill in the blank) kinda way. See the thing is C is SO PASSIVE!!! Is it wrong that I'm teaching him to tell his brother "NO!" and even encouraging him (occasionaly) to not share? I mean we do want him to use his words right? And telling your little brother no is definetly a part of typical development......but parts of me wonder if I'm treating C and K differently because C has Down's and K doesnt? Is it because I dont want to see C be treated any differently from other kiddos? Which I dont I'll be the first to admit but I dont want K being treated differently either. But there is a bigger part of me that insists that it doesnt matter who has what I would still be encouraging my passive child to stand up for himself even if it meant not being 100% nice all the time. Perhaps this is because I am the exact opposite of passive 24/7 and always have been. Then there are times that I have to admit its just funny to watch K, my strong-willed, super-sized tantrumer, drama king of a child get fussy and not get his way! This doesnt make me an evil Mommy does it? I guess no more of an evil Mommy than the time I was secrectly happy my son got put in time-out for stealing the teachers chair (several times) when she got up. I mean how typical can you get?! Way to go C!

Throw pillows

I am so happy about these pillows! (how sad is this??) I made them! I'm very new to sewing so this is a big deal! See I have this very ugly but very comfortable green couch with a rip in the cushion....and various boy induced spots on it. So I've been wanting to get a slip cover for it. I finally found one that fit our oddly shaped couch. As you can see its a nice chocolate brown color. But that was so dark....I decided to make some throw pillows to brighten it up! So after draggin my poor husband to hobby lobby we picked out that striped fabric and I made these pillows! I think they turned out beautifully.....and with only 1 phone call to Selena my sewing mentor! Yah ME!!!

Balloon Wreath

So I HAD to share what I made for this coming weekend. K is turning 2 in about 10 days but we decided to go ahead and celebrate his b-day this coming wknd. So at work the other day I went to a home that had something very similar to this on their front door and I thought...."How cute!!! I want one.....Hey I can do that" So I did! How cute for K's b-day and future b-days!

Diaper roll-up

Here is a handy little thing I made the other day. I call it a diaper roll-up. I'm modifying the design (constantly) to include a small changing pad......hopefully covered with vinyl that will make it easy to wipe clean. You know just in case poo gets on it! There are several different options as far as the closure goes. This one shows a ribbon and snap closure covered with a pretty jewel! It can also have a covered button/elastic band style closure. This one doesn't have a changing pad on it. I'm hopeful that I won't need a changing pad too much longer.....maybe we can get both boys potty trained! Most, if not all, of the items seen on this blog are available for purchase on my facebook business page. Just search To Baby With Love on facebook!

Welcome!

Ok so lately I've felt the need for a creative outlet....a place to share cute crap I've made, ideas, recipes, you name it! And so starts my blog! Be patient I'm new at this! To get the ball rolling how about an adorable picture of my sons? Since they inspired my title I figure they should be the debut, right? Now to tell you about me and the fam, for those of you who don't already know me. I work full-time in a career that I love, and though at times there is a part of me that wishes I could stay home with my little men during the day....most of the time I am so glad I don't. I firmly believe that God did NOT make me a stay-at-home mommy type. Bless those of you who are! My oldest son we shall call C, he is 4 1/2 and has Down syndrome, which I'm sure will be well blogged about eventually! The little one is K he's almost 2 and has caused me to read "Parenting the Strong-willed Child". We are hoping to add to our little family soon and crossing everything(excpet our legs....LOL) for a girl!
